How we test

Comparisons on Occono are desk research. These are the five points behind a page, and what it does not claim.

  1. Desk research, dated. A comparison is written from the vendor’s pricing and help pages, and from public reviews the article links. The article says when those pages were read.
  2. That is not hands-on testing. We only say the editor built or ran something where the article itself says so. The how-to guides are steps for the reader to follow. They are not a write-up of a test already completed.
  3. Lowest sensible cost for one person. A free plan you can work on beats a short trial. When a tool we do not earn from is the better fit, the article names it. Kit, Substack, Zapier and Mailchimp already appear that way.
  4. Partner links stay labelled. Occono earns from Systeme.io, Make and beehiiv. A commission does not change the verdict. The programmes are listed on the affiliate disclosure. The site-wide wording is in the website terms.
  5. Nothing invented. No reader counts, testimonials, credentials, or scores that did not come from a named public page. Sam Calder is a pen name. If a cited page has changed, write to hello@occono.co.uk and name the guide.
